Beau and I got the chance to meet up with a 2nd cousin of mine (maybe 3rd once removed??). She lives in San Francisco now but was in an art show in Honolulu.
My Grandfather John Robert was first cousins with her Grandmother "Aunt Etter" (to me). Every summer when I would go to Pennsylvania and stay with my grandparents, Amanda and I would play. She lived 2 doors down, with her grandparents the only house in between. We had the best time playing flashlight tag, checking blue bird houses, bugging her sister Gretta, walking to Gardners candy store in Bedford, swimming at Calebiet & shawnee, going to Meeting and much more. During the school year we would often be pen pals writing letters back and forth. Over time we grew apart but will always have the fondest memories. It was great to see her and spend some time catching up a bit.

Janu-isms
Mr. Kainoa is the guy with all of the isms this month!
He has a little anger streak and is known to say, "You're a BAD word!!"
I've told him I don't like the word 'hate' and I will wash his mouth out if he says it too much. After a little run in with some buddies he came to tell me, "He hit me in the webs so I HAD to say HATE."
He calls me 'Heidi'
Asks, "Where are my boys?" (his bros)
Tells certain people, "You're my best friend" and calls out, "Hey Brah!"

The "Real Deal"
Plenty of times, one will catch Tyce or Kai watching Grammie read books on the computer while I'm off doing chores or showering. They love it so much and always always always talk to the screen as if she's right on the other side. Well, nothing is better--except getting to see her in person! Grammie came out to visit on her way to Florida to see Ggma. We are quite fortunate to live on the way to everything :)
The Dole plantation was a request by Tyce where we hit up a train ride and some Dole whip. She even got the boys a big ol' pineapple gumball. Then back to the house for some book time!

Weekday Warriors: Makapuu Lighthouse
A day off school calls for some island exploring! We caravaned with some friends over to the east side for a hike. Makapuu Lighthouse was our trek today. Gorgeous views, whale sightings, legs burning, accomplishments happened. We followed up with a dip in the water and some slurpees. Success!

Great start
I can't think of a better way to start the year than to have Uncle Chad and Aunt Marcy stop in for a visit! They spent Christmas in New Zealand, so lucky us--we are right in between New Zealand and the mainland. We showed them around Waialua and got some good quality time in with two people we adore.
