Space Derby

We are workin' scouts! (and will be for the next 18+ years!?! Wowza!)
Oshyn had his first Space Derby with scouts.  He glued, sanded, and painted a striped speedster.  His rocket went up against some serious stuff and turned out pretty good for a first time rocketeer.  Oshyn was a great sport and had fun twisting the bands to let 'er rip.  Cruz, on the other hand, scratched out his "Go Oshyn" sign and started crying because Oshyn didn't get first.  Talk about brotherly love!

Here's to the 1st Space Derby of many!

Generations

This little outfit was worn by my dad, my brother and now my little boy.  I'm almost 99% sure that my Grammie Herzog made it with a plethora of TLC for her first son.  I'd love to find a picture of the other two in the same outfit...

First

Handsome guys
(the one day of the school year that they don't wear basketball shorts--sans picture day :)
Mr. Funny Face himself
Ready to go!
Because this is cool to do

The first day of school came quickly this year. As long as the boys start in July, I might always feel this way.  The boys asked me if I thought it was fun to have my birthday on the second day of school when I was a kid.  They were blown away when I told them I NEVER had school on my birthday.
Almost there! I love living close enough to run/ride.
Locking up with the other 10 bikes (I swear there were hundreds of bikes when I went to elementary school!  Ten is a good day here.)

Oshyn started 3rd grade, so he knew the drill.  We briefly met his teacher and said goodbye to him on the blacktop.  Then we were off to the BIG K!!

We took some pictures and then realized that a kid that we see at the park often was in his class and "my friend" Leilani from our old house was also in his class.  Cruz was pumped to know a few kids since no one from preschool was going to Woodbridge. (He has always been really concerned about the friend thing & was distraught when he found out none of his preschool friends would be going to kindergarten with him).   For the first week or two he would point to kids around school in the morning (or when school got out) and tell me, "See that boy/girl?  He's/She's my friend" or after saying hello to someone, "I just made a new friend".
Big Kindergardener and the brother that wants to be one!

He is so cute.  I want to eat him up.  Oh....and he can't WAIT to have homework!! (Don't worry we documented that for sure!)

Catch-up-isms

Wow!  Does time fly when you're having fun?!
I have some major "Catch-up-isms" to post on here...

Kai has been pretty quiet & isn't talking--yet!  Seriously, he's the nicest, sweetest, most chill baby on the planet.  Thank you very much Heavenly Father!  He's starting to coo and sometimes smile (either in his sleep or at the ceiling--looking at the angels watching over us).  I want to smother him with hugs and kisses, but try to refrain from tackling him--since "he's so little!" as Tyce says.

Tyce is a nut job.  I mean that in the most loving, motherly way.  He reminds me of a mini Eddie Haskell charmer.  I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to sell give him to the zoo just about every other day, but I'd also be lying if I said I didn't adore him and the crazy chaos he brings.  He runs his mouth nonstop and if I daze out for a minute, he stops and says, "You not talking?"  Tyce has been using the word 'actually' a lot.  He puts it at the end of sentences, so it sounds hilarious, to us at least.  "No, I want some water...actually."  Tyce jumps off everything and is very excited and passionate with every movement (which makes me a little nervous at times with a newborn, but its working out).  After months of setting my alarm to wake him up in the night to go to the bathroom, something has clicked and he now wakes on his own--great timing with Kainoa here now.  Tyce says, "Can I hold you?" when he wants to be held and when you hold him, he will hug you and pat your back.

Cruz is a technology & lego-a-holic.  If he wants me to look up something on the computer, ie. hats, he'll say, "Just go to hats.com".  Anything you want, just add a .com to it and you'll find it in his mind.  One day he also asked, "How do you spell dot com?"  He is obsessed with playing games on my phone when he's allowed and tried to convince me to let him borrow it when he went to Seattle with Beau.  When I told him we didn't have another phone and I wanted to be able to talk to people while they were gone he said, "You can just Skype everyone".  Ha!
All of the legos he got for his birthday he sat down (that day) and put every single one together, with very little help, if any.  He amazes me and luckily is getting more patient with himself.  Most of the time he has patience with others, but when Pop Pop came here for his birthday and they were walking the nature trail at Lodi Lake, Pop Pop pushed his buttons good!  There is a little lake on the trail called, "Pig's Lake" and Pop Pop kept talking about the Pigs in Pig's Lake.  Cruz knows there aren't any pigs in there, but Pop Pop was relentlessly mentioning the pigs.  Cruz told him finally, "If you say it again, I'm going to punch you in the face!!"  Patience out the window! :)
He is in love with Kai (as are all of the boys) and when he first came home and had the stump from the umbilical cord on his belly button, Cruz kept calling it Kai's "vocal cord" instead of "umbilical cord".

Oshyn is Joe Cool.  He is definitely eight.  He wears shades, checks himself out in the mirror--because he looks good!, and poses for pictures---ALWAYS flashing a peace sign or thumbs up and if someone is in the picture with him, he'll give them bunny ears.  He works hard at everything until he gets it just right, is a numbers guy, and is really good at anything athletic (don't tell him I said that--he's got confidence coming out his ears :)  When he gets an idea in his head he'll make it happen--ie. the homemade zip-line that appeared in our backyard after seeing Madagascar 3 (the trapeze didn't quite work out).  Oshyn loves his brothers and drives them crazy--all in a matter of 5 minutes.  He came up with a funny math game that he plays with Tyce
(Tyce always answers--TWO!)
Oshyn: What's 1+1?
Tyce: 2
Oshyn: What's 10-8?
Tyce: 2
Oshyn: What's 1824-1822?
Tyce: 2
Oshyn: What's 1000506-1000504?
Tyce: 2
Oshyn: Wow Tyce!!  You're sooo smart!!

I'm sure there'll be more -isms soon!  Gotta love life with kiddos.

Speedo

Kai had his first dip in the pool this hot day in July.  He sported a speedo and pulled it off quite well.

He hung out like this was nothing new and did what he does best.  Chilled.  Not a day or night goes by that I don't thank Heavenly Father for sending me this sweet baby when he did.  Kainoa is a charmer.

Sparklers and Sun/Moonroof

We had a great 4th.  The boys made it home safely from Seattle, I picked up a shlew of sparklers and we drove a block or two from our house, opened up the sunroof and watched the fireworks.  And of course, we had our infamous flag cake to top it off.  Forever my favorite holiday.

Sea-a-doe

About 2 weeks after Kai was born, Beau took the "big boys" on a road trip up to Seattle (said Sea-aaah-doe by the littles).

They went to see their oldest cousin, Ian, play in an all-star football game, before he headed off to BYU for college.

Ian also received his Eagle Scout award on Sunday.  Ian, along with his brother Zach, is probably the best example of a wonderful young man for all of these boys (and girl) to look up to.  We are so thankful for both of them.

About 2 years ago, we had our last road trip up to Washington.  We stopped at the Portland temple for a stretch and took a picture of the boys.  Beau snapped a picture this time around too...my have they grown!  Oshyn has the same head tilt and everything--just less baby teeth.

They had a great male bonding trip and I missed them like crazy!!

FIVE

Cruz turned the BIG F-I-V-E on June 5th...which made it his GOLDEN BIRTHDAY!
We celebrated on his special day with some of his preschool buddies, having a Lego party.

Would you believe me if I told you "we forgot" (read "I forgot") to have everyone sing 'Happy Birthday' & have Cruz blow out the candles?  Yep.  In the hustle and bustle of it all, I cut the cake for everyone and handed it out...then Beau reminded me that we didn't sing 'Happy Birthday' or even light candles.  So, we stopped right then and there, shoved some candles in the already-cut-cake and belted out an extra fabulous 'Happy Birthday' song.  Cruz could have cared less and was probably pumped because he got a second helping of cake!

The Birthday Boy and his entourage.  (Owen, Cameron, and John).  I love five year olds.  They were all super sweet, fun, and excited about everything.

Later on in the evening, we gave him our gifts in this fancy wrapping job.  In our family, when its your golden birthday you get as many presents as your b-day (i.e. Cruz was 5 on the 5th, so he got 5 presents.)  He was stoked to find a skateboard, Cars jet, Zem shoes, $5 bill, and a guitar wallet.

Summer begins!

I decided to have a purpose for summer vacation...meaning that everyday wouldn't just be an all day free-for-all, but that each day we would plan one thing to do (one thing isn't as overwhelming when you're 9+ months pregnant).  These are the categories and every week, Monday-Friday, we assign them to the day we're going to do them.
*Make something
*What's cooking
*Somewhere fun
*Time to read (library day)
*Be thoughtful (service)
It has worked really well, thanks to Pinterest, and has given the boys something different to look forward to each day.
Here is a picture journal of our first week!
